For over 140 years, Cogswell Hall has been a pillar of the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood offering trauma-informed supportive services and permanent housing as private, fully furnished apartments for 41 adult residents.Community is the core of Cogswell Hall as residents interact daily in common spaces such as activity rooms, floor lounges, a library, and CogsMart (the small, in-house store) and in sharing three daily meals in our family-style dining room.WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A COOK AT COGSWELL HALLAs a full time Cook at the YWCAs Cogswell Hall in Cleveland, you will play a vital role in upholding the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and operational organization set forth by the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Health. Your culinary expertise will shine as you create and serve meals that meet the My Plate Nutrition criteria, ensuring residents receive balanced and wholesome dishes. Additionally, your attention to detail will be crucial as you conduct monthly surveys with residents to assess food service quality, quantity, temperature, and appearance. By exemplifying excellence in all aspects of food preparation and service, you will contribute to enhancing the dining experience for our community members.WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR IN A COGSWELL HALL COOKTo excel in the role of full time Cook, candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old. A culinary degree is preferred, along with a minimum of one year of experience in restaurant, senior living, or equivalent cooking settings. Proficiency in quality and quantity food preparation is essential for this position. Additionally, candidates should hold a valid driver's license and preferably have Servsafe Certification.
