Charity Navigator, the world’s largest and most trusted nonprofit evaluator, seeks a dynamic and process-oriented Direct Response Manager with intermediate fundraising experience to help grow its individual giving program and provide donor support. A successful Direct Response Manager will work well in a team environment, be a strong writer and communicator, diligently prioritize and manage their work, and have a passion for analyzing and optimizing results. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Development, the Direct Response Manager will coordinate donor retention and acquisition initiatives to meet or exceed annual revenue goals. This role is ideal for someone who is at the beginning of their fundraising career and seeks to substantially develop expertise in direct response, digital marketing, and donor relations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Craft, deploy, and report on renewal and acquisition campaigns via direct mail, email, text, and paid social media.
Track and analyze fundraising campaign performance, providing regular reports and recommendations for improvement.
Manage the donor loyalty society, organizing quarterly virtual meetings for members and tracking donor retention rates and lifetime value to assess the effectiveness of loyalty initiatives.
Manage the donor acknowledgment process, ensuring timely and accurate sending of monthly acknowledgment letters to donors.
Co-manage relationships with direct mail/caging and Salesforce consultancy vendors, ensuring timely and accurate execution of deliverables.
Assist in donor relations to ensure inquiries are responded to in a timely, professional manner, especially surrounding peak times of giving including in the wake of external crises, large annual campaigns, GivingTuesday, and the last week of every December.
Provide weekly reporting on the status of fundraising across all channels.
Other duties as delegated by the Senior Vice President of Development include but are not limited to:
Data imports and hygiene via the organization’s customer relationship management (CRM) tool
Special projects in coordination with the Development Officer, Grants Manager, and Development Assistant.
Background, Skills, and Formal Experience:
3+ years of fundraising experience, nonprofit or political
Proven capabilities in donor communication (three writing samples required in our second round of interviews)
Experience with CRM management, ideally with Salesforce
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
Ability to work independently and manage priorities and deadlines
Ability to work cross-functionally with colleagues throughout the organization
Demonstrated success in strategic planning
General understanding of the nonprofit fundraising landscape and Charity Navigator’s robust role
Commitment to exceptional constituent support
Experience with project tracking software (e.g., Jira, Asana, Monday.com), preferred
Interested in CFRE certification, added plus
Compensation and Benefits:
Base Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
