Harbor is seeking a Director for its Research and Intelligence Practice Group. The Director is responsible for overseeing all functions within the Library Information + Asset Management department, ensuring efficient management of resources, systems, and services. This role involves leading our strategic leadership team, our managed library services team and collaborating internally across the practice and firm to provide exceptional support to our managed services clients. Additionally, the ideal candidate for the role of Director will be one who thinks creatively about finding innovative solutions to client challenges, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and strives daily for excellence.

Responsibilities:
Department Head, Library Information + Asset Management:

Overall responsibility for department strategy, operations and budget
Management of library services team
Management of Strategic Leadership program across all Strategic Leaders
Evolution of library services delivery including innovation

Client Management:

Directly responsible for strategic leadership of 6-10 managed service clients
Ongoing client management program development and ownership across management team
Tracking and reporting on key metrics of success across managed services to identify risks and opportunities
Ongoing awareness and alignment to the market trends and relevant application to client base
Effective communication with C-Suite stakeholders

Harbor Collaboration:

Part of R+I Leadership team collaborating across all R+I strategy and evolution both within the practice and across practices and internal functions
Oversight of operational integration across R+I vendor management, research, and intelligence support groups for client success
Ensure that the team upholds firm values along with policies and procedures.

Thought Leadership:

Act as a leading voice in the community to promote the active evolution of the law library and information services industry
Participate in Harbor’s R+I thought leadership and marketing plans

Team Leadership & Management:

Supervise and provide guidance to department staff (currently ~30 professionals including 10 managers), including hiring, training, and supporting performance evaluations.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
Provide input on strategic direction of function and skill sets required looking forward.
Responsible for effective management of staffing levels, balanced workloads, and facilitating opportunities for growth

Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate (JD) or Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent, required.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in a law firm setting.
Minimum of 10 years of experience managing or leading an information or innovation function.
10 years of experience managing a law library is preferred.
Proven track record in leading high performing teams with a balanced focus on developing solutions, building client relationships, and fostering talent growth.
Knowledge of library technologies, integrated library systems (ILS), and digital resource management.
Deep familiarity with legal research tools and databases, such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, or Bloomberg Law.
Experience managing a team and leading projects, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends in law libraries and information services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Specific knowledge of or certification in customer success a plus.
Experience producing regular thought leadership
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
