About us:Happy Compromise Farm + Sanctuary (HCF+S) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) vegan community farm.At HCF+S, we provide forever homes to animals in need as well as grow plant-based food and flowers for our community, which is located in a food desert. Everything we grow, we give away in our free farm stand because we believe that food access is a basic human right. We farm using intensive, no till methods, and 95% of the work is done without machinery. We are currently focusing on extending growing seasons in our four-season climate, as well as expanding our reach in order to help more humans in need.We are incredibly passionate about doing good in the world for humans and animals alike. If our mission and ethics resonate with you and you fit the requirements below, please reach out!Summary:The farm hand will work closely with our farm manager to seed, transplant, harvest, wash, and pack produce. Other tasks include soil preparation, weeding and irrigating, as well as some greenhouse and orchard work. The work can be strenuous, especially during the hottest days of the season, but also a lot of fun and always rewarding. We are looking for someone who enjoys physically demanding work outside, is reliable, responsible, and a fast learner.Year-round position for the right candidate (likely more hours in summer, fewer in winter)Part-time, 15-20 hours/week, early mornings and weekend availability required$17-$20/hr DOE; paid sick time after 90 days; free produce, flowers, and plants!Ideally 2+ years of production vegetable or flower farming experience or schooling/trainingMust be local to the Southern Tier region of NY; relocation is not availableNote: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
