OverviewThe kitchen is the sizzling, egg-cracking, aromatic heart of Karm Chling. Were looking for a cheerful Kitchen Assistant to join our talented kitchen crew as a paid, residential staff member. The Kitchen Assistant should have training and experience working in a commercial kitchen and be capable of preparing large buffet-style meals that include options for omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dietary preferences. ResponsibilitiesPlan and prepare buffet-style meals for 25-80 guests within a team environmentAssist with purchasing and inventory as directed by the Kitchen ManagerAssure all meals meet quality standards and public health guidelinesMaintain health and safety standardsTotal of 30 hrs/wk, plus 5 additional hours of community responsibilities QualificationsCommercial cooking knowledge with a minimum of 1-2 years of related experienceExperience with meat, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free cuisineCreativity, good organizational skills, and customer service orientation Salary/CompensationMonthly stipend commensurate with experienceRoom and board, including a personal room, daily meals, and access to community spaces, such as staff exercise room28 personal days per yearFree access to programs onsite and at other Shambhala centersSupports for meditation practice, including a personal Meditation Instructor and time dedicated to meditation in the daily scheduleA generous guest policyFor more information, check Job Opportunities at our website: KarmeCholing-dot-org
