Land Access Baseline Study Writers

The Land Access Baseline Study Writers will contribute to the research and writing of a geographically-focused baseline study of land and market access issues in the continental US southeast, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The writers will be responsible for the research and writing of one geography-focused chapter of the study, to be integrated into the full study in close collaboration with the RAFI Land Access team. The completed study will be used to inform services and policy advocacy efforts by RAFI related to land access in the project geography. This is a contract role working with the RAFI Land Access team.
Contractors will be responsible for:
Researching land and market access issues in their respective geographies
Writing a chapter of the baseline study focused on their respective geography
Adhering to the research outline determined by the Land Access team (see attachment)
Incorporating primary research, including farmer focus groups implemented by RAFI and partners, into the study
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
Demonstrated experience working in the US southeast and/or U.S. Virgin Islands
Demonstrated experience in social science research (primary and secondary) and report development
Demonstrated familiarity with agriculture and/or food systems
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Commitment to justice, equity, and inclusion
Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities:
Curiosity, intellectual engagement, and an active interest in continual learning
Experience in relevant discipline, such as geography, rural sociology, or agricultural economics
Self-starter: can take initiative both on projects and work plans, and seek information independently
Comfort working with non-English-speaking constituencies
Compensation and Timeline: Contractor role for an estimated 12 hours per week at $75/hour. Deliverables to be completed within two years.
