Posit's mission is to create free and open-source software for data science, scientific research, and technical communication. We do this to enhance the production and consumption of knowledge by everyone, regardless of economic means, and to facilitate collaboration and reproducible research, both of which are critical to the integrity and efficacy of work in science, education, government, and industry. We are a different kind of software company, and we’re proud to build and sell products that help people understand and improve the world through data.
Founded in 2009, our team has grown steadily over the last several years with the release of new products and a widening base of both enterprise customers and open-source users. We are a remote-first organization of ~300 people, distributed across the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, and Europe. To ensure that we can continue to support our team, and enrich our commitment to our values while we grow, we are seeking to hire a People Ops Partner to contribute to our employee relations, manager support, and talent management practices. This role will join a team of 8-12 People Operations colleagues in recruiting, compensation, payroll and benefits. This position will report to the Director, People Operations.
What you’ll own:
Employee relations: Support managers and employees by delivering performance plan coaching, workplace issue resolution, legal/compliance consultation, and advising on respectful workplace practices.
Management coaching: Build trusted partnerships with managers that enable strong teams and effective leadership across our functions.
Talent management: Implement learning and experiential solutions that accelerate career growth. Manage ongoing talent development processes, ensuring equitable access to opportunity and personalized, meaningful growth opportunities for individuals.
People operations and communication: Collaborate with People Ops colleagues to deliver an exceptional employee experience through our people-related platforms, processes, events, and programs.
What you’ll help with:
Diversity, equity, and inclusion: along with HR colleagues and other internal DEI Council leaders, contribute to our goal of maintaining an inclusive environment for all, and applying a diversity lens to all of our people and business practices.
Culture, community, and change management: bring your HR expertise to discussions and decisions about organizational health initiatives, the role of Posit within our larger community, and the impact of growth and change on our people and our company success.
Compensation and career frameworks: collaborate with our Compensation and Analytics Lead to apply compensation practices and frameworks that support greater pay transparency and clarity about job and career progression. Consult with managers on job design and hiring profiles that meet business needs while offering rich, well-defined role opportunities.
What you’ll teach:
You will teach managers how to build strong functions and teams in a diverse, global, and remote context.
You will teach Posit colleagues how strong HR practices can create a supportive, inclusive, and energizing work environment for everyone.
You will teach us how to leverage strong operational skills in the People Ops space to drive positive organization and talent outcomes.
What you’ll learn:
You will learn how to support people and teams in a distributed, non-hierarchical environment.
You will learn how to scale a profitable, values-centered business.
You will learn how to deliver HR solutions and expertise in a Benefit Corporation context that values employees, our community, our customers, the environment, and our shareholders EQUALLY.
About you:
You have prior experience in an HR Generalist, People Partner, or HR Business Partner role, and you are comfortable applying the basics of HR management and employment law to everyday workplace situations.
You are exceptionally empathetic and human-centered in your approach to work. You listen deeply to others, and are experienced at the art of inquiry as a means to understand others’ needs and perspectives.
You have excellent problem-solving capabilities. You are able to apply good judgement and make sound decisions independently.
You are organized and able to balance competing demands on your energy and focus. You can toggle between the operational and emotional aspects of HR work with ease.
You demonstrate courage and conviction when offering advice about a workplace matter. You are comfortable drawing a firm boundary or delivering tough feedback when necessary.
You believe that kindness matters. Your regard for the dignity and lived experience of others is exemplary. You can easily spot situations at work where kindness and respect may be lacking, and are comfortable addressing them directly.
