Salary: $4,485 - $6,011/Monthly + Full BenefitsFiling Deadline: Sunday September 1, 2024 @ 5PMJOB DESCRIPTIONThe City of Mill Valley is seeking a self-directed problem- solver with an entrepreneurial spirit, high standards of excellence, and demonstrated commitment to public service and program development.Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator I Aquatics is an entry-level position that leads the City's Aquatics personnel and provides assistance to the Recreation Supervisor - Aquatics on all related matters. This position also works closely with Recreation Coordinator II- Aquatics to support division goals and activities.The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7 day a week operation. Recreation Coordinator I schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES (include but are not limited to):Recruit, hire, manage, train, schedule, audit, discipline and evaluate staff, contractors, interns and volunteers.Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.Schedule and provide regular class and certification offerings necessary to staff for the proper operation of a public pool facility.Manage and develop the swim lesson program to balance and meet the needs of the community and the goals of the Department.Plan, develop and implement programs and events.Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.Coordinate with local police and fire agencies for emergency response protocols.Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.Work with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents and community members in developing recreational programs and activities.Maintain all personal certifications and be available to lifeguard, teach swim lessons, and otherwise supplement line staff when needed.Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Please see Job Description* on application website for full list of job responsibilities. *Job Description is currently under review. A bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation, or a related field is desired.Please note that a minimum of two years of experience with increasing responsibility in delivering aquatic programming (including teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding) is also required.The following certifications are required: valid lifeguard certificate with CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.Desired certifications include: LGI, WSI, WSIT, and CPO/AFO or equivalent of those certifications. If the candidate does not have them, they must have the ability to obtain a combination of these certificates within six months of hire.
