POSITION OBJECTIVES: To educate Wisconsin social work students, NASW WI members and social work practitioners statewide about voting in Wisconsin and the policy issues that will be impacted by the 2024 Wisconsin state and national elections. To mobilize Wisconsin social work students, NASW WI members and social work practitioners statewide on behalf of NASW PACE and Wisconsin Social Workers PAC endorsed candidates. There will be one full-time position or two part-time positions. This position pays $25.60 per hour. Position Length: August 5th- November 8th Please email your resume and cover letter to NASW-WI Executive Director Marc Herstand at [email protected]:1)BSW or MSW degree preferred2)Previous political organizing and event planning. legislative advocacy and/or program development experience3)Previous public speaking experience4)Wisconsin driver's license and access to a car for statewide travel5)Excellent written communication6)Social media experience POSITION DESCRIPTION:1)Review and update voting information Fact Sheets for Wisconsin's fifteen social work programs.2)To review and modify as necessary a PowerPoint presentation for social work students regarding voting requirements.3)Review, complete, and modify as necessary PowerPoint presentations documenting policy differences between President Biden and former President Donald Trump; Senator Tammy Baldwin and Eric Hovde; Peter Barca and Congressman Brian Steil; Congressman Derick Van Orden and his two Democratic challengers-Katrina Shankland and Rebecca Cooke; and Wisconsin Democratic and Republican State Senator and Representatives.4)To create one page Fact Sheets for these races detailing policy differences of the candidates.5)To contact all fifteen social work programs statewide to arrange either in-person or virtual presentations on Voting and the national and state election power points.6)To make in-person presentations and to table at a minimum of five social work programs in Wisconsin, including UW Madison, UW Milwaukee, UW Whitewater, UW Eau Claire, UW Stevens Point, and either UW Green Bay or UW Oshkosh.7)To publicize PowerPoint information on social media and through NASW WIs weekly and quarterly newsletters.8)To post in social media and via our weekly and quarterly newsletter information about VoterID, voter registration, absentee voting, early voting and voting on election day.9)Contact NASW WI members in priority State Senate and State Assembly districts and invite them to support Wisconsin Social Workers PAC-endorsed candidates.10)To coordinate our election efforts with like-minded groups statewide, which could include BLOC, Voces de la Frontera, Disability Rights Wisconsin, New Gen, campus YoungDemocrats, and other groups.11)To organize a phone-a-thon to NASW-WI student members, transition members andmembers in swing legislative districts regarding voting in the 2024 elections.12)To organize NASW-WI canvass or phone banking as feasible.13)Research and contact the voter registration and outreach programs for underserved populations in Wisconsin, including those for students, people of color, disabled persons, and young people, and see how social workers can help.14)Participate in regular NASW-WI staff meetings and the national Political Organizes meetings15)Help organize a webinar on how social workers can encourage their clients to vote. Write articles on this topic for the NASW WI newsletter and social media.
