Purpose StatementThe job of Speech Language Pathology Assistant is done for the purpose/s of assisting with the provision of services for individuals whose speech and/or language is inhibited by a disability. A Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) performs tasks as prescribed, directed and supervised by an Arizona licensed Speech Language Pathologist. Other Functions Acts as a second language interpreter for the purpose of providing assistance during assessments. Attends meetings (e.g. departmental, multidisciplinary team, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information. Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation for the purpose of using screening instruments specified by the supervising SLP. Confers with the classroom teacher for the purpose of providing requested information, implementing plans for services and/or making recommendations as directed by supervising SLP. Maintains various files and/or records for the purpose of providing written support and documentation required. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Performs checks and equipment maintenance for the purpose of ensuring equipment is in working condition. Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions for the purpose of supporting supervising SLP. Prepares materials and follows speech language lessons (e.g. speech therapy, teaching materials, etc.) for the purpose of appropriate lessons for individuals or small groups. Provides direct instructional services to students under the supervision of the SLP for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of speech language deficits.
