Job description:We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Taxidermist Assistant to join our team. As a Taxidermist Assistant, you will work closely with the lead taxidermist to support the preparation, preservation, and mounting of animal specimens. This role requires a passion for wildlife, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to handle delicate tasks with precision.Key Responsibilities:Preparation of Specimens:Assist in the skinning and cleaning of animal specimens.Prepare and treat hides and skins for preservation.Assist in the removal of flesh and fat from hides.Mounting, Sewing and Finishing:Help with the construction of mannequins and forms for mounting.Assist in the positioning and mounting of specimens on forms.Aid in the detailing and finishing work, including painting and airbrushing.Maintenance and Organization:Maintain a clean and organized workspace.Ensure all tools and equipment are properly cleaned and stored.Manage and organize specimens and materials.Learning and Development:Learn and apply new taxidermy techniques under the guidance of the lead taxidermist.Stay updated on industry standards and best practices.Deer Processor - Part time Seasonal November 1-January 1Role: cut carcasses into cuts; separate meat from by-products; check meat for defects; make sausage or other specialized cuts of meat; package, wrap, label and weigh products; keep machines and equipment clean and functional; monitor to ensure products meet USDA standards.Taxidermy Skinner - Part time & full time year roundRole: Skinning, caping, fleshing, salting, skin and skull preparation, shaving, tanning, fur grooming, sewingTaxidermy Finish Artist - Part time & full time year roundRole: Air brushing, painting, sculpting, modeling, molding and casting. Excellent attention to detail and creativity.Habitat Artist - Part time & full time year roundRole: Design and construct realistic habitats for taxidermy displays. Strong understanding of natural settings and animal behavior. Proficiency in working with materials like foam, wood, and resin. Excellent attention to detail and creativity.General Laborer - Part time & full time year roundRole: This job requires the ability to bend, stand, and lift. Must be able to stand for extensive periods of time and perform repetitive motion. Must lift with 25-50 pounds of force frequently and 50-100 pounds of force occasionally. Basic carpentry skills a plus. Be able to work independently.
